Gideon Moi's plans receives support from Ugandan MPs

The Ugandan MPs supported Moi's plans after the Senator hosted them at Nairobi's Serena Hotel.

The Senator's energy plans contained in the Local Content Bill 2016 has been lauded by Ugandan MPs who termed it as a catalyst for economic prosperity.

The Bill seeks to ensure that locals get the best out of minerals extracted from their areas.

The Bill also aims at putting an end to conflicts that have rocked communities in oil and gas rich areas by ensuring millions of poor Kenyans are assured of greater benefits.

Soon after hosting the delegation of Ugandan MPs at Nairobi's Serena Hotel, Moi said that was encouraging to see Ugandan leaders seek for laws that will ensure all stakeholders involved in extractive industry get a better deal.

"I am very delighted to welcome Ugandan delegation here. We have had a very robust discussion. I am happy that they have taken this path to develop law for local content to ensure every single Ugandan benefits from their own natural resources," Moi was quoted by the Standard.

Patrick Nsamba Oshabe, a Ugandan MP who is sponsoring a similar bill in Ugandan Parliament praised the legislation saying that it contained vital clauses that said that could be replicated in Uganda.

"If we go back home and implement what we have learnt here, I think the Ugandan people will be happy. The entire sub-Saharan African should swing into action to ensure that they participate so that all the dollars are not taken out of our economies," Oshabe stated.
