Gov't Recalls This Brand of Condoms After Discovering They Have Holes
Popular condoms found faulty recalled by Health Ministry
A letter to Cupid Limited from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board stated that the condoms were substandard.
Failed Tests
Part of the letter read: "The batch for Fiesta Stamina failed freedom from holes test while that for Fiesta Big Black failed thickness test."
It further added: "You are hereby directed to immediately institute a recall of the affected batch. In addition, submit a recall plan within two days of the receipt of this letter."
As the world marked the International Condoms Day in February, Population Services Kenya, which distributes Trust condoms, confirmed suspicions that there were fake studded condoms in circulation.
Authorities had begun investigations to establish how the counterfeit batch of condoms got into the country and ended up being sold.
Faulty Condoms
Condoms are celebrated for contraception and protecting individuals against sexually transmitted infections.
However, their success is tied to correct and consistent use.
Experts say faulty condoms can increase the chances of transmission of HIV and other STIs as well as the likelihood of pregnancy.
This is because they are made of substandard material and could, therefore, break or tear easily when in use.
