Mugo’s mother, Regina Wairimu Ndichu, said her son had proper upbringing and was academically gifted throughout his school years.

Regina, however, admitted that the only mistake she believed her son had committed was failing to go for the mandatory internship at a government hospital while he was pursuing his degree in nursing.

“By the time he was graduating, he had a running clinic and he chose not to attend the attachment that was required for him to be absorbed by the Government. I think this is the only mistake he made in his life. Otherwise he is a qualified doctor,” the mother said as quoted by the Nation.

She described her son as an over-achiever who topped his classes from class one all the way to class eight, even skipping classes at the request of his teachers.

After completing his KCPE, Mugo scored 540 marks out of the 700, earning him a spot at Mang’u High School.

His parents, however, could not afford the school fees and instead looked for a cheaper option at Dagoretti High School where he scored a B+ in his KCSE exams.

It was the University of Nairobi where he started his controversial healthcare entrepreneurship, first starting a mortuary attendant to supplement his income, and later starting a private clinic even before he had qualified.

His mother, while admitting that he did not fully understand his son well, said she was ready to die defending her son.

“He is my son, of whom I am prod. Even if you came with a big gun and asked me to deny him, I would die defending him,” Regina said.
