Mike Sonko warned for recording conversation with Waititu

Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has received a stern warning for allegedly recording a phone conversation with Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu and afterwards releasing it to the public.

Speaking in Kajiado, Council of Governors’ chair Josphat Nanok waded into the controversy and rebuked the move, warning that it could lead to conflicts among county governments and bosses.

Nanok noted that the move was unethical and could cause conflicts among governors.

Nanok declared that he is not okay with “Issues of taping your colleagues’ discussion, Issues of bringing out matters you may be discussing indoors to the public domain”.

“I think these are issues that we should be looking at so that there is respect communicating between a county government and another…so that certain issues do not bring conflicts and aggravate them to a level that is not acceptable.”He added.

Early this week, a recording of a phone conversation between Sonko and Waititu was made public shortly after Waititu’s wife Susan Wangare was arrested for constructing a building without obtatining the necessary approval.

In the recording, a voice believed to be Waititu’s pleads for the release of his wife and others arrested alongside her.

A voice believed to be Sonko’s acknowledges that there are other higher authorities (mkubwa-boss) involved and finally orders the release of Wangare on a cash bail of Sh 10000.
