Wrangles within the ruling Jubilee party took a new twist with a section of Jubilee party MPs going after Deputy President William Rutoand calling for disciplinary action against him.

Led by Cherangany MP Joshua Kuttuny, the MPs under the umbrella of team ‘Kieleweke’ demanded decisive action against the DP for what they termed as constant attempt to disrespect his boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta and derailing efforts to fight runaway corruption in government.

“We are not cowed by their calls. The main person who should instead be censured is the DP. He has been derailing efforts made by government to fight graft and the handshake agenda, which has been tailored to unite the country,” Kuttuny said.

Speaking at a public forum on Saturday, Kuttuny led the team in calling for disciplinary action against “errant” team Tanga Tanga associated with the DP.

“The party should discipline Tanga Tanga team because at the moment, they are confused and know that they have been cornered by the actions taken by Directorate of Criminal Investigations, as a team made of over 40 leaders which cuts across we are striving hard to stop those who want to run away with tribal leadership,”  Kuttuny added.

The Cherangany lawmaker who was at one point a loyal defender and close ally to the DP defended his team led by nominated MP Maina Kamanda making it clear that their purpose is to liberate the country from corruption and tribal politics.

“We are unstoppable because what we stand for is also in the mouths of many citizens who are tired of runway corruption,” he added.

Mumias MP Ben Washiali who also doubles up as the Jubilee Chief Whip took issues with Jubilee party MPs (mostly allied to DP Ruto) who have been criticizing and issuing demands to the DCI and DPP, stating that they should be kicked out of the party.

“Errant ones should be removed. Some of them are telling DCI that they have one week to prefer charges on those who are corrupt. Who are they to give orders?” said Washiali.

Government withdraws security detail attached to DP Ruto's allies

The developments came barely a day after President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration rattled a section of Jubilee politicians allied to DP William Ruto by ordering for the immediate withdrawal of their security details.

The move which was effected on Friday saw body guards attached to Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu, MPs Kimani Ichungwa (Kikuyu) and his Kandara counterpart Alice Wahome amongst others withdrawn.

Speaking to a local media house, Governor Waititu and Ichungwah confirmed that their security details had been withdrawn for reasons they are yet to know.

“Ask them what do they want to do with my family while am away. They are being told its orders from above in the PS’s office” Ichungwah said.

Police Spokesman Charles Owino defended the decision, stating that it is an on-going procedure that will affect all leaders.

“We have recalled our officers who have been undertaking protective services and then the services will be given by administrative police. So no MP, Minister, governor or senator will totally lose his (or her) security.” Owino clarified.
