The public was treated to a bitter exchange of words as Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu clashed with Kiambu County Woman Representative Gathoni wa Muchomba at an event presided over by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta.
CS forced to intervene in ugly public clash between Waititu and Gathoni wa Muchomba
Trouble started when the Woman Rep took to the podium during the tree-planting exercise in Ruiru, insisting that Waititu should be cornered until all county funds lost during his tenure as the Kiambu county boss is recovered.
“I saw how you (Waititu) were cornered and this should continue until stolen public funds are returned. We have a problem and it is only fair that I speak out as a representative of the people.” wa Muchomba fired.
The remarks angered Waititu who did not waste time in giving a response to the disappointment of guests at the event that was rapidly turning into an avenue for the Jubilee leaders to square out their differences.
“If you have any evidence against Baba Yao (Waititu), please take it to where it is needed. Stop bringing it up in churches, funerals and public events like this one graced by her Excellency the First Lady.” Waititu fired back.
"It is true that I am being investigated and I accept it, indeed so many people are being investigated. However, that is not a big deal as those investigating me do not know me." Said the governor.
“Even Gathoni (who is accusing me) only saw me about two-three years ago and does not know me,” Waititu added.
CS intervenes as things get ugly
It took the intervention of Environment CS Keriako Tobiko to calm the situation as with things moving from bad to worse with accusations and counter-accusations flying across.
“I urge our leaders to take cognizance (of the presence of the First Lady) and respect the occasion.” Tobiko implored.

The governor has been on the spot over claims of corruption with several bank accounts linked to him under probe.
Property worth billions of shillings allegedly owned by Waititu is also under investigations amidst allegations that he worked with his family and proxies in corrupt dealings running into hundreds of millions of shillings.
