Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has been selected to observe the upcoming Nigerian election.

American based National Democratic Institute (NDI) and the International Republican Institute (IRI) chose Governor Ngilu to be among the 38 delegates to monitor the Saturday elections.

According to a statement form her office, the governor will be the only Kenyan politician who will participate in the elections.

The statement outlined that the bodies selected the governor based on her years' experience as a female politician in the Kenyan space.

"Governor Ngilu has been a public servant for more than 27 years, as Member of Parliament for Kitui Central Constituency for four consecutive terms, from 1992 to 2013 and as a Cabinet secretary in the national government of from 2002 to 2015," the statement read in part.

Former President Clinton cancels Nigeria trip

Governor Ngilu will on Wednesday witness the signing of the National Peace Accord between the leading candidates - President Muhammadu Buhari and his main rival former Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Former President Bill Clinton was scheduled to deliver the key note address during the signing but canceled travel plans at the last minute.

He cited the charged political climate in the country as his major concern.
