Exclusive: Alfred Mutua’s interesting strategy to take over from Uhuru

Speaking exclusively to Pulselive.co.ke Governor Mutua outlined his strategy which he believes will propel him to become Kenya's fifth president.

In a race predicted to be a heated one owing to the number of politicians who have expressed interest in the top seat, one would wonder how the former Government spokesperson is positioning himself to take over from President Uhuru Kenyatta yet DP William Ruto is still in the picture.

Speaking exclusively to Pulselive.co.ke Mr. Mutua detailed the preliminary strategy he is implementing in a bid to become Kenya’s fifth President.

Supporting Uhuru

After leaving the Wiper Party, Mr. Mutua publicly proclaimed his support for President Kenyatta and his Jubilee Party. In our interview, the Maendeleo Chap Chap Party leader alluded that this support was strategic in itself.

“And I am supporting him (Uhuru). Why? Because I want to take over from where he finishes and now take this country to the next chapter,” he said.

Mr. Mutua opined that Kenya had not yet attained what the forefathers envisioned and described himself as the best leader to take the country to the next level after Mr. Kenyatta’s term ends.

“I have decided that I will not just race for the President but by the grace of God, I will be the 5th President of Kenya. So that we can transform and get back to the dreams of our founding fathers. Those dreams have not yet been fully achieved,” he said.

Countrywide campaigns

At the same time, Mr. Mutua is organizing countrywide campaigns to strategically position himself for the 2022 race.

He mentions that he will take his vision to the people in a bid to break the mtu wetu mindset rooted in tribal lines. For the Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader, his focus will be development and clean politics.

“I want every Kenyan to embrace me and say Mutua ni mtu wetu. I never sent a postcard to be born a Kamba so what we need is to transition to where we look at the person,” he said.

Radical communication team

The Machakos Governor, who has been accused of pulling PR stunts, also has an active communication team conducting the groundwork to propel his Presidential bid by giving him a National face.

The team is so focused on communicating Mr. Mutua’s vision that many have criticized the Governor for publicizing projects which they allege the county was not undertaking.

“What we do is to communicate effectively. Many complain that we are doing PR but are we to blame if other people are not communicating what they are doing?” one of the communication persons questioned.

Running mate

Mr. Mutua remained cagey on who he will join forces with for his Presidential race noting that it was too early to determine such a matter.

He, however, reiterated that he was willing to work with visionary leaders for the benefit of Kenyans.
