Court fines Wavinya Sh10million

The High Court in Machakos on Friday fined former gubernatorial candidate Wavinya Ndeti with Sh10million being costs of her election petition against Governor Alfred Mutua.

Judge Aggrey Mchelule ruled that Mutua was validly elected as Governor during the August 8 election, adding that Ndeti's claims of electoral malpractices were not supported by sufficient evidence.

Ndeti was represented by a high-level legal team of nine lawyers under the leadership of Otiende Amollo.

The County Returning officer and the IEBC had demanded Sh10 million in election costs, but were awarded Sh5 million.

Mutua had claimed Sh12million in legal costs but was awarded Sh5million - meaning his opponent will pay a total of Sh10million as costs of the unsuccessful petition.
