Maraga said that President Kenyatta’s directive that the Judiciary receives increased funding was a positive step in enhancing the effectiveness of the justice system.

“I want to thank the President for putting in a word for us to Treasury and Parliament to enhance our budgetary allocation to deal with corruption cases," said Maraga.

The Chief Justice had earlier complained bitterly of the budget cuts introduced by Treasury and Parliament in the 2018/2018 financial year.

Maraga spoke during the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of a criminal court in Kahawa, where he was accompanied by Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i.
