Pastor Mary Wanjiku held an extensive interview with the Nation where she recounted her roots and her rise, one of the pioneer female gangsters who operated in the dreaded Rasta-Wacucu-Wanugu criminal axis of the 1990s.
Wanjiku revealed that she was the second wife to Bernard Matheri Thuo, popularly known as Rasta, and the man who acted as the gang leader of the criminal group that included Anthony Ngugi Kanari (Wacucu), and Gerald Wambugu Munyeria (Wanugu).
All the three gangsters were killed in the late 90s while Wanjiku survived to tell the tale that has seen her serve in jail and reform into a woman of the cloth.

The head pastor of Jehovah Shalom Ministries, narrated that she had a rough childhood that led her to consider suicide at early age.
She was later to join the criminal world where she met her husband Matheri – the man who exposed her to some of the most daring robberies and heists ever committed in Kenya’s history.
Wanjiku’s career as a female gangster ended in 1999 after she was arrested and sentenced to jail in connection to the theft of Sh196 million(about Sh1.1 billion when adjusted for current inflation rates).
