Nairobi Governor Sonko on Thursday declared that the matatu CBD ban is set to return with changes incorporated.

Sonko stated that the second ban would consider the disabled, elderly and pregnant women who were greatly affected during the first wave on Monday.

The Governor further stated that,” Hii ya kwanza ilikuwa drill. Mlitembea on Monday na mtatembea tena (That first one was a drill. You walked on Monday and you will walk again).

Speaking during the KCB Foundation 2jiajiri Youth Empowerment Program at the Safaricom Indoor Arena in Kasarani which was attended by President Uhuru Kenyatta, Sonko urged the current Senator Johnson Sakaja, to join him in transforming the city instead of opposing the changes.

“Ata mimi nilipeleka Kidero kortini sana. Sonko si Kidero. Wewe wacha story mingi., njoo tushikane na rais tufanye kazi,” (I used to take Kidero to court a lot but Sonko is not Kidero. Stop this behavior, unite with the President and let us work,”

The controversial governor added that Nairobi dwellers needed to keep fit and that he would not tolerate laziness.

Tough Times

The ban that was implemented on Monday inconvenienced many passengers who were forced walk from one stage to another.

Most of the residents were confused in regards to the new stages that had been set to facilitate the move by the county government.

Sakaja had moved to court in an attempt to block the rule stating that it had been enforced without necessary consultations.

Sonko, however, later suspended the ban to allow discussions with matatu operators who had argued that the law was implemented without public participation.
