Efforts to block DP Ruto from vying for the Presidency takes a new twist

What will the court say on Ruto's ambitions?

Mr. Ouda stated that he will be moving to court seeking an interpretation of the law after legislators threw out the motion.

A relentless Ouda insisted that he was not on a witch hunting mission but simply wants the law to be followed to the letter.

Constitutional amendment

According to the Kisumu Central MP, he wants the Constitution to be amended in order to bar the DP and deputy governors from vying to succeed their bosses after serving for two terms.

“The office and tenure of the President and the Deputy President is one and the same (being Presidency) under the Constitution and the election laws.

“Once an individual has vied for and occupied, for his or her full term, the position of deputy presidency, the individual is barred by the Constitution from vying or occupying the position of President or the position of the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya for any further term,” his motion reads in part.

While addressing the press Mr. Ouda noted that he will not be intimidated by his colleagues who shot down his motion.

”I will not be intimidated by the comments that were made by Parliamentarians when the motion was rejected,” Ouda said.
