Speaking during the JKL show on Wednesday, Atwoli didn't give more details on how Kibaki tamed Odinga but mentioned the silent treatment by the ex-president went a long way in ensuring he remained in control.
"Only Mwai was able to Odinga!! Uhuru Kenyatta would have been the easiest person to work with but there’s a lot of push and pull! The succession politics has made it hard," Atwoli stated.

The COTU Secretary General claimed that the tactics used by the ruling administration (Harassment) on Opposition leaders had elevated their political stature.
He cited examples of Hassan Joho and Miguna Miguna, who was deported to Canada after administering the oath to Odinga during the 'mock inauguration' on January 30th at Uhuru Park.
Grand Coalition Government
In the aftermath of the 2007-2008 crisis, Odinga and Kibaki formed a coalition government after negotiations.
This was necessitated by the Post Election violence that had been witnessed across the country after the 2007 elections in which Kibaki was controversially declared the winner.

Former UN secretary-general Kofi Annan was at the centre of mediation talks held at the Serena Hotel in Nairobi.
The two leaders eventually agreed to the deal with Kibaki becoming the President while Odinga occupied the position of the Prime Minister.
During their tenure, Kibaki opted for silence especially when they did not agree on different issues which according to Atwoli played a key role in taming him.
