Why Kibaki refuses to be carried in a Range Rover

Inside Kibaki's retirement life

It has now emerged that the former President has been preferring to keep a low-profile, spending most of his time managing family businesses and catching up with his old golfing buddies.

The Standard on Friday quoted its sources revealing details of Kibaki’s retirement life.

One source revealed that the former President has maintained his love for the sleek Mercedes S600 despite suggestions that his feet would be more comfortable in a Range Rover which is more raised.

Unlike most of his age mates who prefer using a walking stick, the retired President dislikes walking sticks.

He insists on walking by himself despite the fact that he still suffers the effects of a near-fatal accident in 2002 that broke one of his legs.

“The man has no time or appetite for retirement paraphernalia like walking sticks, reading glasses, hats or trench coats...he attends business board meetings and hosts local and foreign dignitaries at his Mwai Kibaki Foundation offices in Nyari Nairobi, but I have never seen him request, or seem to need abakora,” one of the sources inside the former President’s circle revealed.
