The swearing in of Members of the County Assembly and the election of the speaker are supposed to happen on this day.

Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has set the date for the first sitting of the Nairobi County Assembly.

The sitting is to take place on September 6, 2017 whereby, according to the House rules, the swearing-in of members and election of the speaker will take place.

“In the exercise of powers conferred upon me, I appoint that the first sitting of the second assembly of Nairobi shall be held at the assembly’s chamber, City Hall building, Nairobi,” he was quoted by The Star.

This comes after the Clerk to the County Assembly Jacob Ngwele made a request to the governor to gazette a date following the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission’s official listing of elected MCAs.

“Whenever a new county assembly is elected, the governor, by notice in the gazette , shall appoint the date and place of the first sitting of the new county assembly.”

There are 85 members elected to the county assembly.
