NASA announces new timelines for street demos

NASA have changed strategy and announced new time schedules for their protests.

Kisumu Senator Fred Outa during the Gala Awards of the Lake International Pan-African Film Festival announced that future street protests in the city will end by 12 noon to avoid disruption of businesses.

According to The Nation, Outa said there was a need to carry out the protests strategically to save the county from lagging behind economically.

He added that the change will also go a long way in doing away with criminals who disguise themselves as protesters to cause mayhem.

“I want to promise Kisumu residents that we still have our agitation to a better democracy but we want to do it moderately. We will be doing our demonstrations in the morning and end by lunchtime,” Outa added.

Firebrand lawyer and politician Miguna Miguna has called on NASA supporters to welcome leader Raila Odinga at the JKIA on Thursday upon his return from the US.

"The NRM movement and the coalition of Nasa invite millions of patriots to walk to JKIA and welcome the people's president. Take over Nairobi on that day,"  Miguna said.

Raila's US trip was part of the plan by the coalition to crystallise its resistance and economic boycott plan that will be activated if the swearing-in of President Uhuru Kenyatta is sanctioned by the Supreme Court.

“Raila has met everybody he programmed to meet in the US, and he is continuing to meet more. When he comes back, we will release a programme, an action plan going forward,”  NASA principal Moses Wetang’ula said.

Since the National Super Alliance (Nasa) launched anti-electoral commission protests in August, business in the lakeside city has been affected as police always engage the protesters in running battles the whole day.
