Tension as NASA forced to cancel Crucial meeting at Last Minute

Cracks have in the past week emerged in NASA over the House Leadership membership list.

“It was in the interest of the principals that the meeting be rescheduled to a date to be announced later,”  Mbadi said.

However NASA CEO Norman Magaya told The Nation that there was no "Parliamentary Group".

Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi meanwhile said that the PG was cancelled so as to allow their coalition members participate in the 8th East African Community inter-parliamentary games in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The PG meeting was meant to plan the NASA agenda in the 12th Parliament as well as sorting out underlying thorny issues of various constituent parties.

Part of the issues that have in the past week brought cracks in the unity of the coalition was the line-up of the NASA House leadership members.

In the list, Suba South John Mbadi (ODM) was been appointed as Minority Leader with Suna East MP Junet Mohammed (ODM) proposed as the Minority Whip.

However, it is the appointment of Mohammed that has caused resentment by some leadersincluding those from the Coast region who feel sidelined in the new line-up as they termed the Minority Whip position as rightfully theirs.

The powerful position had previously been held by former Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung’aro and Wundanyi MP Ludidi Mwadeghu both from the Coast.

Another disgruntled lot within NASA appears to be the Amani National Congress led by Musalia Mudavadi whose internal wrangling has played out in public in the past few days.

According to Amani National Congress (ANC) national chairman Kelvin Lunani, Jubilee is using the party's former secretary general Godfrey Osotsi to destabilise them to ensure that Mudavadi does not stand a chance for a higher office in 2022.

Osotsi was replaced as ANC secretary general by political analyst Barrack Muluka.

However, Muluka's appointment has been challenged at the Registrar of Political Parties by eight ANC members who are alleged to be close to Osotsi.
