Gathecha Muhoho issues ultimatum to media house, demanding 3 things

In a letter dated 21 June 2018 by P.M Kimani & Company Advocates, Gathecha and Semelango have demanded “an undertaking in writing that the paper shall not, in the future publish articles which are defamatory” to the businessmen.

The businessmen also demanded that the media house “provides a written, unconditional and unreserved apology in publications with similar coverage and/or outreach as the same as the ones that carried the said offensive articles; such an apology to bear similar prominence of the said offensive articles.”

Articles published on 13 June and 15 June with the title “How President Uhuru Kenyatta’s uncle Gathecha Muhoho got Sh68 million from NYS deal” and “PS Omollo reveals how Uhuru kin pushed for NYS payments” linked the two businessmen to the NYS scandal.

Also listed in the demands is that the newspaper admits liability for publishing the perceived defamatory content.

Should the paper fail to comply to the demands within 14 days, a legal suit will be filed in court.

Petrokenya Limited, partly owned by Mama Ngina Kenyatta’s younger brother Gathecha Muhoho as subcontracted by Horizon LTD to supply diesel to NYS. He paper reported that the deal saw the company pocket 68 Million shillions from NYS, forming part of the shady deals that saw the tax payer lose close to 10 Billion shillings.

The paper also reported that an agent acting on behalf of Muhoho and the company pushed for the payments to be made.

The alleged meting reportedly took place on 20 April 2018 in Muthaiga in the sidelines as former President Mwai Kibaki met with opposition chief Raila Odinga.

According to a self-recorded statement by ousted Youth PS Lilian Mbogo Omollo, she was invited to the meeting by Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua.
