ODM launches crackdown in Nyanza

President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to visit the region on Thursday

ODM party chairman John Mbadi

ODM Chairman John Mbadi told reporters that the party aims to weed out imposters who are masquerading as party officials in the region.

The Suba South legislator revealed that the fake representatives have duped a number of politicians in the region, tainting the image of the largest party in Kenya, by membership.

"ODM is the only political party in Nyanza with two or more people claiming to be chairmen of one branch.

"And this not just about the position of chairman. All other positions too have fake officials," Mbadi explained.

Dire Consequences

Mbadi announced that would be dire consequences to follow those nabbed in the crackdown. He encouraged bonafide officials to report incidences with the masqueraders.

"ODM conducted elections at all levels across the country and has genuine officials who are known. Those using the name of the party should desist.

"I have instructed all branch chairmen to report the masqueraders to the headquarters and we will take punitive legal action against them. We must have order in the party," he warned.

Mbadi welcomed supporters, however, he asked them not to transact business on behalf of the party because ODM will not take responsibility for such transactions.

President Uhuru is set to visit Kisumu with special AU high-representative Raila Odinga on Thursday where they will preside over the launch of the Universal Health Care (UHC) pilot programme.
