Nasa issues new calendar of 'swearing-in' after postponement

Nasa has said that most of the event will be done in Mombasa County.

In a statement through its twitter handle on Thursday, the National People’s Assembly Organising Committee divulged that the postponed inauguration and launch of the People's Assembly will take place early next year.

"Following the postponement of the launch of the People's Assembly that was to take place on Jamhuri Day, Tuesday, December 12, the Organizing Committee wishes to announce the resumption of the People's Assembly process," the statement dated December 14 reads in part.

A week ago, while addressing the press on the postponement of the hyped event, thanks to the pressure form the west and conflict within Nasa, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi flanked by Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula, had said that the process of the formation of the People’s Assembly would be initiated at a later date, amid jeers from supporters who accused Mr Odinga of cowardice.

Meanwhile, in the statement seen by Pulse Live Kenya and signed off by the Organizing Committee members Hamida Kibwana, Koitamet ole Kina, Peter Mathuki, David Ndii, Oduor Ong’wen, Judy Sijeny and Bramwell Simiyu, the team stated that the launch of the People's Assembly will be preceded by a series of regional consultative forums.

“These preparatory meetings will bring together the leadership of different regions of the country to deliberate on national governance as it affects the regions, and distill the region’s agenda for the People’s Assembly,” the statement reads.

The first of the said consultative forums, the team has said, is expected to take place on Sunday, December 17, at a venue in the coast region. All the NASA coalition chiefs will be present.

Earlier, Nasa co-principal Musalia Mudavadi had quipped that Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho had agreed to play host to the controversial ceremony which would involve the oath taking by Nasa leader Raila Odinga.

"The NASA national leadership will grace the occasion. Detailed information on the forum will be communicated by the coast leadership," the statement reads.
