Confusion as Kalonzo makes u-turn on Thursday Election
Division in NASA?
In the missive, Mr. Musyoka seems to have abandoned NASA’s plan not to participate in the fresh presidential election scheduled for October 26.
Instead, the former Vice President is calling on Kenyans to exercise their democratic right and turn out in large numbers to vote.
"The right to vote is perhaps the only time Kenyan people get to exercise their sovereignty directly. Not to vote as a citizen, as right as it may be, is however sadly to cede the right to participate and determine your future to others. You not only lose an opportunity to determine yourself but the grounds to make a claim on anything political in the country.
"Therefore, I urge all Kenyans to show up and take up their rights in the coming election. The right to vote is a birthright for every Kenyan and which the Kenyan constitution guarantees.” the said letter reads in part.
In the alleged letter, Kalonzo also rubbishes claims that he was not doing well health-wise.
“I am indeed well and wish to dispel rumors of motivated by ill will, or otherwise, and assure the Kenyan people that I am indeed well, of good health and robust in mind," the purported letter read.
Kalonzo has been missing in the political scene after he traveled to Germany for undisclosed duties.
Pulse Live Kenya could not verify the authenticity of the letter.
However, on Monday Kalonzo talked to NASA supporters through a phone call from Germany during a campaign tour in Kisii, where he urged them not to participate in the elections.
“There is no need to continue with an election that is already rigged. Raila Tibim,” Kalonzo said.
At the same time, Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua poked holes on Kalonzo's long silence noting that he does not support the call by NASA leader Raila Odinga not to vote on October 26.
"He does not want to be caught in the violence mix which can land him before the ICC," Mutua told journalists.
