National Super Alliance (NASA) principal Raila Odinga and Uhuru Kenyatta gained tremendously following Friday’s deal that saw the two pledge to work together and unify a divided nation.

The opposition leader got a chance to restore his image as an icon of democracy and a statesman that he had lost following his 30 January 2018 swearing in.

Last year’s elections saw Odinga clash with Western envoys severally, accusing them of bias in favour of Jubilee.

The perfect opportunity for him to restore the ties presented itself on Friday with the NASA leader bowing to the demands of the diplomatic community and brokering a truce with Kenyatta.

Odinga has also reinvented himself and placed himself right at the center of 2022 succession politics. Anyone with ambitions in the 2022 presidential race will now have to deal with him owing to his overwhelming influence cross the nation.

It was a win-win situation as President Kenyatta too made gains that he would not have made without the deal.

First, he has cemented his legacy as a statesman who united the country by reaching out to the rival coalition following an electioneering period that left a deeply divided nation.

The unity pact with Odinga also means less politicking which is good for the country and development.

Politicians can now channel their energy to development and addressing the pressing needs that Kenyans are currently facing.

It remains to be seen how the two will manage their fragile pact and achieve what they have set out to achieve for the nation.
