Odinga said that before the handshake, the wave arrest of powerful and wealthy people would have been “unthinkable”.
He said that the Building Bridges Initiative, which followed the famous handshake, had created an environment where suspects would be apprehended without fearing political backlash.
“This crackdown and the support by the public were unthinkable at the start of this year with Kenya torn down the middle by ethnic politics, elections and impunity until the MoU in the Building Bridges to a New Kenyan Nation happened with a very clear agenda on how to address our ages old problems,” Odinga said in a press statement on Sunday afternoon.

The ODM leader also attributed the demolition of high-end buildings built on riparian land to the “handshake”.
“Thanks to the bipartisan support, public lands whose recovery started then stalled under the NARC regime in 2003, has kicked off, with the grabbers denied the ethnic and political party sanctuaries they usually hide in,” he added.
Odinga spoke just hours after President Kenyatta stated that his new resolve in fighting impunity had cost him many friends.
"Let us lose our friends and do what is right in the eyes of God. We shall gain other friends. Let us create a society that respects and treasures hard work and integrity, a nation with conscience," the head of state said on Sunday.
