Uhuru shamed by respected American newspaper

Zero chills

The American newspaper, in an editorial published on Tuesday, called on President Donal Trump and his officials to reign on Kenyatta and stop him from walking Kenya on the path of autocracy.

The Washington Post's editorial board listed a number of recent developments where it stated President Kenyatta had disregarded the constitution to infringe on human rights and undermine the rule of law.

"By shutting down media, ignoring court orders and charging peaceful opponents with treason, he [Kenyatta] is dangerously raising tensions in an already polarised society and inviting ostracism for his government," the editorial noted.

The paper further revisited the President's handling of the September Supreme Court ruling where he promised to "revisit" the ruling, and referred to judges as "thugs".

"Mr. Kenyatta could have fixed the problems with the voting process, ensured a free and fair vote, and defeated Mr. Odinga again."

"Instead, he embarked on a vindictive campaign, sponsoring legislation to prevent the supreme court from censuring future elections and intimidating electoral officials, one of whom fled the country," the editorial stated.
