DP Ruto warns Raila after being sworn-in

Mr Odinga was 'sworn-in' on Tuesday.

DP Ruto who spoke for the first time in Gatukuyu village, Gatundu North, where he unveiled the construction of the 30km Gatukuyu-Mataara road set to cost Sh1.5 billion, told off Mr Odinga and his team, two days after he (Mr Odinga) 'took oath of office' on Tuesday to be the 'people's president' in a ceremony held at Uhuru Park in Nairobi.

“I want to promise you that we will not allow politics to dominate the country again because we already did away with elections in 2017. Those other things that you are hearing are nothing but comedy and drama,” said Ruto.

“Those hell-bent on continuing creating drama should know that they are on their own. Those who want to do politics should wait for the opportune time.

"Even the Bible says there is time for everything and this is time to work for the Kenyan people. When time to do politics will come, we will do it and we are experts in it,” he said.

The DP said President Kenyatta would not watch as opposition leaders drive the country into violence but will work towards uniting the country.

“Sisi hatutaki malumbano, vitimbi na hekaya za Abunuwas, tumewaachia hao (we will not be part of the opposition’s wrangles and drama but will focus on building roads and equipping hospitals),” Mr Ruto said.

The tough talk by DP Ruto comes amid rising criticism of Opposition from world super powers including the US, which on Friday warned Mr Odinga against subverting the constitution

“The United States is gravely concerned by Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga’s self-“inauguration” on January 30. We reject actions that undermine Kenya’s Constitution and the rule of law.

“Uhuru Kenyatta was elected as President of the Republic of Kenya on October 26, 2017 in a poll that was upheld by Kenya’s Supreme Court. Grievances must be resolved through appropriate legal mechanisms” the US said in a statement.
