Succession in focus as Odinga goes for new trusted allies
Most recently during the famous handshake at Harambee House, the opposition chief attended the meeting accompanied by Junet Mohamed and his daughter Winnie Odinga.
Following recent developments, Political annalyst Denis Mokua opined that Junet “is without doubt Raila’s most trusted ally. In the recent Raila’s highs and lows, Junet has never stood far”.
The move caught all his confidants by surprise and sparked speculations that the NASA leader could be dumping his old allies I favor of new ones.
The shrewd businessman also accompanied Odinga on a private trip to Zanzibar shortly after the opposition boss withdrew from last year’s repeat polls.
Among those known to be close to the opposition boss is Siaya Senator James Orengo who the opposition coalition has often relied on to fight its legal battles.
Also close to the NASA boss is ODM chairperson John Mbadi and Professor Anyang Nyongo who are believed to be interested in inheriting Odinga’s massive political support.
Mombasa governor Hassan Joho who has been mentored by Odinga is also among those close to the former premier whose future role in Kenyan politics remains in the balance.
The developments come at a time when politicians in the opposition camp are angling to take over from the opposition boss when he hangs his boots.
