Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga made a grand entry into Deputy President William Ruto’s political bastion of North Rift, a region he last visited in 2017 during the hotly contested presidential elections.

Visit comes amidst rising political temperatures from an alleged plot to assassinate DP Ruto and 2022 succession

His visit was marked with all trappings of power, courtesy of his elevated profile after the handshake deal, his role as the Africa Union special envoy for infrastructure and his former role as the Prime Minister and a respected statesman.
His security detail was elaborate with a host of local leaders on hand to receive him as opposed to his previous visits where local leaders who were opposed to his presidential bid pulled a no-show.
Odinga who was the chief guest at a function in Chebara Primary School in Marakwet West to celebrate the retirement of Cherangany MP Joshua Kutuny’s mother-in-law, Ms Ruth Kiptoo, who is quitting teaching after 40 years in service.was received by Elgeyo Marakwet governor Alex Tolgos, Cherangany and Kuttuny among others.
Prior to Odinga’s visit, Tolgos had confirmed that “I (Tolgos) have received the invite and I will personally be there to welcome the former prime minister”.
