3 tough ultimatums Raila gave Jubilee over VAT in Finance Bill 2018
Odinga divulged that should the Jubilee government fail to redeem itself within a year with the new VAT measures in the Finance Bill 2018, he will lead calls to scrap it.
The NASA boss also revealed that he backed the recently introduced tax measures on condition that the government would tame wastage of public funds and extravagance in pursuit of development.
"We cannot allow the 8 percent VAT on fuel levy and entertain extravagant speeding by the Executive and Legislature," Odinga said.
"There is a lot of money going into individuals pockets with the runaway corruption in the country," he added.
The ODM party leader stated that an agreement had been reached with the government “to cut all unnecessary spending like using big cars, traveling in business class instead of economic class”.
He stated that should the government fail to meet these conditions, he will mobilize the public to campaign for zero taxation on fuel.
Odinga who congratulated MPs for passing the Finance Bill 2018 was speaking at a funeral in Siaya on Saturday.
The bill which was signed into law by President Uhuru Kenyatta shortly before leaving for USA was met with outrage amidst concerns that it would overburden the taxpayer who is already struggling to make ends meet.
