US speaks on recalling Kenyan ambassador Robert Godec from Nairobi

The US has finally spoken.

In a statement from the US embassy in Nairobi, the US national refuted the claims that he had been recalled to Washington DC, thanks to the unfolding political situation in Kenya.

“This story is a complete fabrication,” an official Twitter handle (U.S Embassy Nairobi) tweeted Wednesday, accompanied by the alleged story which has a hogwash CCTN News channel.

Earlier, a seemingly fake story with the headline “Robert Godec, US ambassador to Kenya recalled to Washington” was widely shared on social media on Wednesday, a few hours to the highly watched elections in Kenya.

The new development comes in the wake of heightened anxiety amongst Kenyans and the international; community owing to the political situation on Kenya.

On Tuesday evening, hundreds of overserves were expunged from the crucial exercise, citing insecurity and lack of merit in the planned elections.

Prior to the new development, however, Mr Godec speaking in Nairobi in a press conference reiterated the need for dialogue between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Nasa presidential candidate Raila Odinga to resolve the looming impasse.

Kenya has been on the limelight since June when the country went into the electioneering period.
