Earlier, a seemingly fake story with the headline “Robert Godec, US ambassador to Kenya recalled to Washington” was widely shared on social media on Wednesday, a few hours to the highly watched elections in Kenya.

The new development comes in the wake of heightened anxiety amongst Kenyans and the international; community owing to the political situation on Kenya.

Prior to the new development, however, Mr Godec speaking in Nairobi in a press conference reiterated the need for dialogue between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Nasa presidential candidate Raila Odinga to resolve the looming impasse.
