President Kenyatta posted photos of the signing ceremony that was also attended by his deputy William Ruto, National Assembly leaders, Treasury officials, and Attorney General Kihara Kariuki.

Within four hours, the post had attracted over five thousand fiery comments - many of them too vulgar to be published here.

The comments mirror the conversations in social settings with many Kenyans expressing their disappointment at the high taxes introduced by President Kenyatta's administration.

"Look at that group of the greedy, may the witches of Kitui strike that room with lightning, diarrhoea and a serious leprosy," Kim Chon Un wrote.

Weston Kipngetich equated the new taxes to daylight robbery, satirically claiming the President had secured a lasting legacy.

"Whichever way we look at it, you have succeeded in creating a legacy. How else will you ever forget someone who forcefully rob you in broad daylight. To cap it all he holds you upside down and shake you to get the last coin," Kipng'etich said.

Some of the President's die hard supporters tried to calm the situation with spiritual messages that did little to calm the situation.

"Kindly let's respect our God given authorities and it shall go well with us. Every earthly authority is God given and nothing happens without a reason. We can only pray and talk less. Thanks all," James Mwangi said, attracting an avalanche of negative comments.

One netizen replied to Mwangi, "don't bring God in this. I doubt you watched yesterday parliamentary sitting. You wouldn't be yapping your mouth like a seal fish. Haya ni matimoni".
