Sharon mother’s emotional message after meeting Obado

The mother of slain Rongo University student Sharon Otieno on Monday sent out an emotional message after her first face to face with Governor Okoth Obado who has been charged with her murder.

In an emotional interview, Melida Auma said she felt tormented as she stared at Obado taking plea for her daughter’s death.

She further accused the Migori Governor of betraying her daughter Sharon who “loved him a lot”.

“I felt tormented and wondered how he could just be involved in the brutal killing of my beloved child. I asked myself endless questions on just how he could have betrayed my child who loved him a lot,” Auma said in an interview with the Nation.

At one time during the Monday court session where Obado took a not guilty plea, Auma was overwhelmed by emotion and broke down with tears rolling down her eyes.

Auma’s husband, Douglas Otieno, kept a brave face as he accompanied his wife to court, only moving to wipe her tears.

He said that despite the pain, the arrest and arraignment in court of the Migori Governor had given them some optimism that justice would be served.

“I felt comforted that as a family, we will find justice for my daughter and her unborn child. Seeing the governor behind the dock gave some assurance that Sharon’s killers will face the law,” Douglas said.

Obado will on Tuesday afternoon attended the Milimani High Court where his bail application will be considered.
