Three men who were accused of attacking South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro escaped with injuries after the lawmakers supporters attacked them.
The three men were rushed to hospital where they were treated and discharged after they were roughed up outside a police station.
Osoro reported to police that the three had attacked him after he had attended a football match at Nyabigena on New Year.
The MP reported the matter at Nyamarambe Police Station before the three were arrested but later released on the intervention of MP Osoro.
“Elders from the area called on me and requested that I forgive the three which I did. I don’t know at what point the suspects were attacked,” the South Mugirango MP stated.
The MP told journalists that during the scuffle his son was hurt and accused his political competitors of being behind the attacks.
“We should stop entrenching this idea of clannism. The primitive politics being rooted by some of our people should not be tolerated. Let’s not mislead youth that violence is an alternative,” Osoro stated.
“The idea that they went to the hospital to seek treatment was hatched by some people to painted the picture that I was involved in the alleged beating. Let the police handle the matter amicably and have suspects arrested,” he added.
Confirming the incident, Kisii County Police Coordinator Bernard Muli said that the suspects had been released after Osoro requested for the same.
Mr Muli stated that they were investigating further claims that the suspects were beaten moments after they were released.
