Truth on reports of Nyeri Deputy Governor's resignation

The DG is quoted to have said that she has no interest in politics

Speaking to Pulselive.co.ke, Head of Communications Carol Nderi strongly refuted the claims and encouraged the public to ignore them.

The rumours were widely circulated on social media platforms with some purporting that there were stained working relationships within the county's leadership.

When pressed to speak on a general feeling around the office that Dr Karugu was on her way out, Nderi responded with "not true".

Dr Karugu was on Friday morning present to chair a regularly scheduled Universal Health Coverage (UHC) meeting.

The deputy governor ascended to office after a controversial vetting process that was conducted by Members of County Assembly (MCAs).

Not Interested in Politics

She is a former Miss Tourism who once stated that she has no interest in becoming a politician.

"I have no plans to vie for a seat. After this, I want to teach in a university while doing research.

"But it can also be difficult to plan. Things change very fast," she said during an interview with Daily Nation.

Rumors about the Governor

The county government recently had to clarify on reports that Governor Mutahi Kahiga was seriously ill and absent from office.

"Our attention has been drawn to a false post circulating on social media, emanating from a Facebook account that has previously spun outright lies and is seemingly at it again.

"We assure the people of Nyeri that Kahiga is well and in the USA with a section of senior officials to meet investors," Ms Nderi clarified in a statement to the press.
