Uhuru picks new lawyers for Supreme Court petition [FULL LIST]

The president has made major changes after his lawyers lost the August Supreme Court petition.

The Jubilee presidential candidate appeared to have responded to the criticism levelled against his legal team which was accused of failing him during the August petition that resulted in the nullification of his election.

Among the new faces that will be having the onerous task of defending President Kenyatta include lawyers Kimani Kiragu, Tom Macharia, Gideon Solonka, Mayian Sankale, Hillary Sigei, Carol Githae, Hannan el Katiri, and Annette Kithu.

Veteran lawyer Fred Ngatia was, however, retained and will serve as the lead consel. Ken Ogeto, who also represented Kenyatta at the ICC, was also retained as was soft spoken advocate Katwa Kigen.

Evans Monari and Kipchumba Murkomen will  also not be representing President Kenyatta in the second petition.

President Kenyatta’s change in legal representation mirrors a similar move by the IEBC and its Chairman Wafula Chebukati who have had to pick new lawyers after the humiliating loss during petition filed by NASA leader Raila Odinga.

The October 26 election has been challenged by two petition. The first one was filed by controversial businessman Harun Mwau, while the second one was filed by activists Njonjo Mue and Khelef Khalifa.

Mwau’s petition was in regard to the lack of fresh nominations while the two activists state that the withdraw of Odinga from the repeat race rendered the election null and void.

The President on Sunday filed his responses where he stated that the two petitions lacked merit, adding that Khalifa, being a registered member of ODM, cannot purport to file the case which arises out of the wrongdoing of his own party.
