Uhuru to meet Treasury CS Henry Rotich Today over public outrage on Fuel Tax

Important meeting after the 16% fuel tax

President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to meet Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich and Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi on Tuesday over the 16 per cent fuel tax.

The meeting will also include, Attorney General Paul Kihara Kariuki and Finance Committee Chairman Joseph Limo.

This is the first meeting the president will be holding with the the officials since his low-key return into the country on Sunday after a 10-day trip to China.

Fuel tax wrangles

The Head of State left the country before signing the amendment to the Finance Bill 2018 and it remains unknown whether he will assent to the bill.

Members of Parliament on August 29, unanimously voted to suspend the 16% VAT on petroleum products for another period of two years, a move that can only be effected after President signs the finance amendment bill.

The National Treasury CS Rotich remained adamant and put the levy into effect on September 1, effectively exposing Poor Kenyans onto a spike in the high cost of living.
