Wetangula, however, will remain minority leader until NASA elects a new leader in the Senate.
The decision was made by ODM leader Raila odinga and was supported by 16 ODM senators.
National Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka on Thursday suspended the process of electing Wetangula's repalcement.

The Bungoma Senator, however, has insisted that he rightfully deserves the position of Senate Minority Leader as stipulated in the NASA coalition agreement.
He dared ODM to go ahead with the replacement, warning it would be messy and would destroy the NASA coalition.
In response to Wetangula's statement, ODM nominated Senator Judith Pareno stated that the Ford Kenya leader's election was a gentleman's agreement, not legally binding.
She added that the orange party was only taking what is rightfully the party's.
The development came after MPs drawn from Ford Kenya, Wiper, and ANC stated that they would initiate divorce talks with ODM over what they termed as unfair treatment in the NASA coalition.
