Parliament to debate new law extending Uhuru's term by 2 years
He wants the DP's position scrapped off
The Bill tabled by Tiaty MP William Kamket is seeking to create a one seven-year presidential term as well as creation of the Prime Minister’s post.
In the Bill, the PM will be the leader of the party with the most elected Members and will be elected by both the senate and the National Assembly whereby he will serve as the head of Government and state and will conduct government business.
The Bill seeks to have the president elected by parliament as well and will be given ceremonial duties. The Bill will also create the position of Office of the leader of opposition.
If the Bill is passed by the National Assembly, Kenyans will have to go for a referendum to weigh in on the proposed changes as well.
William Kamket who formerly served as Baringo County Assembly Speaker was elected to parliament on a KANU ticket in the August 8 election.
