Details of detective who was shot 40 times on Thika Superhighway

The killed man had links to the DCI.

While details of the matter he was investigating remain scanty, eyewitnesses of the horrific incidence said that three hooded men sprayed 40 bullets to the car, before gunning Mr Munene down.

It has also emerged that the three hooded men were driving a black vehicle and sped ahead of Mr Munene and blocked his vehicle before spraying him with bullets at 10pm, on Wednesday.

Central regional coordinator Wilson Njega on Thursday said who that the motive of the attack remains unclear.

“So far we have not gotten any leads in our investigations but the DCI is on it. The identity of the man has been established, he used to live in Kasarani with his family but was born in Nyeri county. Nobody knows where he was coming from because he was alone at the time of the shooting. The circumstances surrounding the incident are still unclear,” Njega said.

Police have been forced to use the late’s KRA documents, tax compliance certificate and motor vehicle insurance sticker to verify Munene’s identity.

Senior police officers and scene of crime specialists moved the body moved to Thika General Kago Funeral Home while the vehicle was towed to Thika police station. Thika police are still following other leads to identify assailants.

Munene was well-known to police in Kasarani and Nairobi Area DCI headquarters. He lived in Roysambu.
