Governor Waititu on the Spot for Allegedly Grabbing Land

Governor Waititu accused of land grabbing

Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu

Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has been accused by the Postal Corporation of Kenya of trespassing and grabbing its land.

The Postal Corporation of Kenya threatened to sue the County boss over the land which is located in Makongeni area, near Thika Town.

Illegal Invasion

Reports by Citizen News indicated that Mr Waititu did not ask for permission from the corporation before using the land to construct a bus terminus.

Kiambu County Government was accused of illegally invading the parcel of land although it had been leased by the corporation.

However, this was not the first time the Kiambu County Government is accused of attempting to kick out the Postal Corporation of Kenya from its property.

In a different case, a court directed the County to remove a bus terminus constructed in another piece of land belonging to the postal corporation.

Seeking Intervention

Last year, Postmaster-General Dan Kagwe wrote to Cabinet secretaries Mwangi Kiunjuri and Joe Mucheru and Inspector-General of Police Joseph Boinnet seeking their intervention but his efforts yielded little.

The court had ruled that even if the corporation had neglected the land, that did not give the county a reason to invade it.

On his part, Governor Waititu stated that his administration had not invaded the land.

According to the County boss, the land was to be used to decongest the area as his government had started the construction of a bus terminus.
