The CEC was impeached on Friday after 22 out of 23 Members of County Assembly voted in favour of his ouster.
A report by Citizen said that Laikipia MCAs accused the County Finance Minister of incompetence, gross misconduct, abuse of office and failure to attend three consecutive County Executive Committee meetings.
The impeachment motion was moved by Sosian Ward MCA Jacob Endom who accused Ndai of withholding money set aside for paying of county employees.
He added that thousands of Laikipia residents were suffering because of the CEC’s actions.
“Laikipia residents are suffering, workers are not being paid on time. Money set aside for development projects in the county is being used to purchase personal cars by CEC Ndai,” said Endom.
The motion was seconded by Thingithu MCA Stephen Nderitu who faulted the Finance CEC for breaking the law in an alleged appointment of ghost workers.
The County legislators also promised to impeach Trade CEC Biwott Tirop for alleged mismanagement of resources.
Workers strike
This comes a few days after close to 2000 county workers from Laikipia threatened to down their tools over unpaid allowances.
Speaking through their union leadership, the workers protested the County’s move to hire what they termed as surplus workers, contrary to the county laws.
