Uhuru arrived in Harare on Saturday morning in time for the final send-off of one of Africa’s most celebrated liberation icons.
A statement from State House read in part that “President Uhuru Kenyatta has arrived in Harare to attend the State Funeral of Former President of the Republic of Zimbabwe Comrade Robert Gabriel Mugabe. The Funeral being held at the National Sports Stadium, Harare is attended by several Heads of State and Government”.
More than a dozen current and former leaders, including South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Equatorial Guinea President Theodore Obiang Nguema, Thabo Mbeki and Uhuru Kenyatta are guests at the event.
The Funeral that is underway at the National Sports Stadium was preceded by confusion as Mugabe’s family differed with the state on Mugabe’s final resting place.
Reports indicate that the State preferred to have Mugabe’s remains interred at Heroes Square Acre while the family wanted the liberation hero buried in his home.
