Inauguration
Tshisekedi took the oath of office before a crowd of thousands of cheering supporters, government officials and foreign ambassadors.
His predecessor Joseph Kabila wrapped the presidential sash around him which symbolized the handing over of power.
The new DRC President was taken ill as he was delivering his inauguration speech in the country's first peaceful handover of power. "I don't feel well," he said on live TV before halting his speech.
Kabila, who came to power after his father’s assassination in 2001, had repeatedly delayed elections beyond the end of his official mandate two years ago.
