Mama Salome Kinya Muthaura passed on at her home in Meru on 23rd December after an illness.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has reached out to the family of Ambassador Francis Muthaura with a message of condolence and encouragement following the demise of Muthaura’s mother.

The President fondly remembered Mama Salome as an astute Christian whose legacy will endure for many generations to come.
His condolence message read in part that Mama Kinya was ““A devoted Christian, Mama Salome Kinya will be remembered for the roles she played in Church and in the community. She was a person of enormous influence. Indeed, her wise counsel and guidance; and her leadership will be missed by many”.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this difficult moment of sorrow and grief. It is our humble prayer that the Almighty God will give you the strength and fortitude to bear the loss.” President Kenyatta eulogized.
Raising a great family
She praised the deceased for her role in raising a great family and ensuing that her children obtained education and grew up in wise counsel.
“Mama Salome valued education and in the fullness of time, she brought up a distinguished family. She instinctively knew and appreciated that education was the key to a better life and constantly motivated and inspired her children to pursue their education, even when circumstances were challenging".
President Kenyatta urged the family to continue with the legacy of Mama Salome of generousity and positively impacting on the lives of Kenyans even as he prayed to God to give the bereaved the strength and grace to bear the loss.
“No one who visited her home came out hungry. Her community can bear witness to this fact as at one time they were treated to a one week party where she prepared food for them just to clear her granaries for fresh harvest,” read the statement.
The deceased is the mother of Amb. Muthaura who is currently serving as the Chairman of Kenya Revenue Authority.
His illustrious civil service career has seen him serve Kenya in various capacities including Head of Civil Service and Secretary to the Cabinet as well as in the diplomatic mission.
The Funeral service will be held at Mariene Primary School in Meru County on 31st December 2018 from 11am and thereafter she will be laid to rest at her home in Marlene.
