CS Mragaret Kobia on Thursday explained that the award would be accorded to Kenyan women who display exceptional qualities in the face of adversity.
"Hosted an Eminent Women Event this [Thursday] afternoon in honour of the late Dr. Joyce Laboso where we launched the "Dr. Joyce Laboso Gender Awards." This will be an annual event to recognize women who demonstrate determination, perseverance and courage in the face of adversity.
"The late Laboso demonstrated that true heroism is not achieved by focusing on ourselves but by moving beyond the self and doing well for all humanity," she explained, as she urged fellow women leaders to aspire for the same high standards.
Purple Ribbon Award
Prof. Kobia made reference to the 30 Kenyan women leaders who were awarded for their exemplary leadership in 2018.
"The event was also a follow up of the Trailblazers Programme that the Government initiated last year which saw 30 Eminent Women conferred National Honor by His Excellency the President, Uhuru Kenyatta.
"We celebrate and honor the Trailblazers across the country, those known and unknown, those who have passed on and those who are alive for ground breaking achievements, commendable milestones in various fields and laying a strong foundation thus creating hope for many," she stated.
