100 school children hospitalized in suspected cholera outbreak

Worry as school children feared to be suffering from cholera

Medics attend to patients

At least 100 pupils of Chetoto Primary School in Kipsongo area, Trans Nzoia County, have been rushed to Kitale County Referral Hospital with cholera symptoms.

The pupils were experiencing diarrhea and vomiting on Wednesday, but doctors said most of the learners were in stable condition.

Doctors said they had taken samples from the pupils to establish the disease they are suffering from.

Chetoto Primary School is within the expansive Kipsongo slums in Kitale town an it is feared that recent heavy rains could have led to the contamination of water sources.

The Standard reported that the area has no tap water and most residents including pupils rely on water from bore holes.
