Raila Odinga in President Uhuru Kenyatta new 8-member kitchen cabinet

Unlike with his first-term kitchen cabinet, President Kenyatta has seemingly left-out family members from his "legacy term" advisers.

While in 2017 deputy president William Ruto was an integral part of the President's inner circle, insiders say President Kenyatta currently leans more towards former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

The President is said to be keen on the yet-to-be-released Building Bridges Initiative report which is part of the deal he struck with his handshake partner Mr Odinga.

Security bosses part of Uhuru's kitchen cabinet

Top security bosses are also part of the inner circle team beginning with Chief of Defence Forces General Samson Mwathethe.

On intelligence matters, President Kenyatta is said to rely on a trinity comprising Interior CS Fred Matiang'i, Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho and NIS Director-General Philip Kameru.

Kameru's intelligence briefs have become vital in many of the President's key decisions as Dr Matiang'i serves to oversee the administrative functions of government. Mr Kibicho is said to be the President's pointman in matters of managing politics.

Former Nakuru Governor and the current State House comptroller Kinuthia Mbugua is said to be the President's gatekeeper given his vast experience in state administration and the disciplined forces.

Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua has continued to hold a key position in the Uhuru administration and has also continued to be one of the President's longest serving advisers.

The only woman in the President's close team is Ms Nancy Gitau who is the President's political strategist.

Gitau's position has earned her a fair share of political heat from leaders allied to Dr Ruto . She has been accused of poisoning the President against his deputy.

The new lean team does not comprise of the President's family members who were named in the previous line-up as his go-to trusted advisers and common faces at State House.

He was said to rely heavily on his uncle George Muhoho, his younger brother Muhoho Kenyatta, his nephew and personal assistant Jomo Gecaga as well as his mother, former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta. They seem to have taken a back seat on the President's governance strategy.
