The special AU envoy is set to receive the Icon of Democracy award for facilitating various democratic reforms in Kenya and Africa in general.
The March 9, 2018 handshake is among the top democracy efforts that got Mr Odinga nominated for the award.
Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana will also be named the Governor of the Year during the event set to take place at the Sarova Hotel in Nairobi on August 16.
Passaris to receive award
Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris is also set to receive the Africa Community Figure Award during the ceremony.
Others who will receive awards are Uganda Opposition leader Kizza Besigye for the Hero Award, Foreign Affairs CAS Ababu Namwamba for the Inspirational Leader Award, Archbishop Arthur Kitonga and his wife for the Courageous Award.
"Each year people from various walks of life nominate individuals who they deem fit to be recognized for their contributions towards the advancement of Africa," explained the founder of the Awards, Rev. Ambassador Elvis Iruh who runs the Netherlands-based Voice Magazine.
Ken Wakia of the Nairobi Chamber Chorus, Mosound founder Kevin Mulei, P.L.O. Lumumba, Raphael Obonyo, big Ted, Connie Aluoch, Lady Justice Aluoch, Mozambique First Lady Isaura Nyusi, Ambassador Josephine Ojiambo are among others nominated for the awards.
