The former security guard has been in state custody for more than a year after he was arrested in connection with the murder of his alleged lover Monica Kimani in September 2018.

His continued detention has drawn public debate on social media platforms, many highlighting cases of well-to-do individuals who have been granted bail while facing similar charges.

Maribe, who is Jowie's co-accused, has been facing the charges while out on bail.

The Kenyan criminal justice system has been criticized for delay in the delivery of court cases which in most cases, leaders to prolonged stays in remand - particularly for poor citizens who are often denied bail.

The Judiciary has in the past nine years been putting extra efforts to end backlog of cases but the trend is likely to be reversed for the worse if the Treasury's efforts to reduce the Judiciary's budget are successful.
