Relief for Echesa's co-accused after new court ruling

Court's new ruling favors Echesa's co-accused

Rashid Echesa and his co accused Daniel Otieno, Clifford Okoth, Kennedy Oyoo and Chrispin Odipo in court

Four individuals who were charged alongside former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa have been relieved of heavy cash bail.

The court has reduced the cash bail for Echesa's four co-accused in Ksh39 billion fake military tender.

In a ruling on Wednesday, the court reduced the bail from Ksh 1 million to Ksh200,000 for Daniel Otieno, Clifford Okoth, Kennedy Oyoo and Chrispin Odipo.

Echesa and the four other suspects were charged afresh in court after the prosecution consolidated two cases facing them relating to the fake arms scandal.

Arrests over fake arms deal

Echesa alongside Otieno, Okoth, Odip and Oyoo are accused of defrauding international investors through a fake military equipment deal.

They were charged with conspiring to commit a felony, making a document without authority, obtaining money by false pretense, attempting to commit a felony and uttering a false document.

The complainants told police Echesa approached them through mail in October 2019 introducing himself as a Kenyan politician who would help facilitate them with a lucrative tender deal.
